This is Elder Callor coming to you from the mythical land of bridges, pigs, and oil. As you well may know, I got transferred to Sarnia. What you may not know is that Sarnia is right on the border of Canada and the United States. RIGHT. ON. THE. BORDER. I have inserted pictures of the bridge to the states and a video of the flag. Elder Kimball and I actually said the Pledge of Allegiance on the way home from a dinner appointment because we could look across the river and see an American flag flying strong and free in the Spring breeze. It was a precious moment. We see the States every single day and it's pretty interesting haha. So essentially all of this means that I'm in one of the most Southern parts of the whole mission, and actually all of Canada. Har-dee-har-har. I'll go to the Great White North someday.
Upon arrival, we actually got to play floor hockey in the gym with some members and non-members. I felt dramatically more Canadian than ever before, and even more out of shape haha.
A few days after floor hockey escapades, we went to a funeral for a wonderful elderly sister in the ward. This has been the second funeral I've helped out with on my mission, so death has seemed to follow me, unfortunately. This ward has had 5 deaths in the last 3 months though, which is pretty tragic, but not out of the question because a great deal of them are elderly. From the cleanup of the funeral, we got three or four bags of leftover sandwhiches. MORE THAN FOUR LOAVES OF BREAD'S WORTH OF EXTRA SANDWHICHES. So we brought them home, opened them up, and then realized all the sandwhiches, egg, ham, peanut butter and jelly, all were mixed together, and very dry and gross. Realizing that, we went straightaway to these really nice new convert's house (farm) with the sandwhiches. These people are real salt-of-the-earth and very kind, immediate friends sort of people, and they have lots of pigs. We fed the pigs our sandwhiches and felt pretty good for helping them out and saving them some money for feed. Then we realized something dark and terrible. We realized a lurking truth that slid in our stomachs like scaly snakes, a truth that haunts my dreams to this day... We realized the food we fed the pigs included ham sandwhiches. WE FED THE PIGS HAM SANDWHICHES. I hope there is forgiveness for our ignorance! Anyway, the pigs seemed to like it... so maybe they're just weird pigs haha.
And that about covers my Sarnia adventures!!! (thus far) Elder Kimball and I are ecstatic to be back together. We both had similar transfers previous to this one, and we are happy to have a relationship of teaching and work to go off of. We are really blessed to have a super nice apartment that is part of a member's home. We have carpet, which is a first for me in my mission haha. I just lay on the carpet and feel warm and happy and it's great. I also have the best mattress I've had on my mission yet which is delightful. I sleep so well! It's better than a couch, I'll tell you that! The final important feature of our apartment is something both original and also completely stereotypical of a missionary apartment... We have a wall. Covered in Mt Dew cans... We have a Mt Dew wall. And it's spectacular. We were dumb enough to move it from one spot in our apartment to another. They all don't stay up anymore, but we put them back haha. A Dr. Pepper wall is in the making... We'll let you know as construction continues!
Finally, I thought I'd just tell you all again it took me nearly two days to clean our apartment. It seriously amazes me how filthy people can be. I'm not even a neat freak! I just like living in normal human-friendly conditions. Seriously, we found expired food from 2009 in our cupboard. TWO THOUSAND AND NINE. I was 11. Years. Old. Gross. Anyway, I suppose you all may want to have my address. Important note with that though, I may not be staying anywhere for 6 months anymore, so if you want to send things, send them here early, if not, and with important things, send them to the mission office. But this area is unique in that not only do members go to the States and buy us great food all the time, they also send letters for us from the States at a cheaper price which is awesome! So I hope I can send some good letters while I'm here.
