This week's email should be filled with the Spirit, good times, laughs, and mystical haunts for the Halloween season. Or day. Or whatever floats your boat.
Starting off... If you know me, you know I don't eat sushi very much. I just like to have a little bit with my meal, just as a side sort of thing. Well our Zone Leaders really like my companions and I so they invited us to have lunch with them at this sushi place called 168 Sushi, and being a nice guy, I said I'd go because I'm down for trying new things, and I'm a big boy, I can have a meal of sushi. Well anyway, we went there and I was terrified that it was WAAAAAYYYY over our budget because of how nice it was. The building was beautiful and they had excellent all-you-can-eat service while you order from an ipad, and most importantly, what sets this sushi place above all other sushi places, and perhaps all restaurants in the world is that they had ice in their urinals. Yes. Ice. So fancy. Perhaps you didn't want to hear about the sushi bathrooms. Well I figured it was Halloween so all bets are off. Besides all that, I ate SOOOO MUCH SUSHI. Salmon and crab and every other fish I can't pronounce. Oh and chocolate ice cream. I had a lot of that afterward too. Luckily it was only like $15 Canadian so essentially pennies in U.S. currency ;)
Next I want to shout out to a returning member we work with who goes by the name of Tim. He says "Eh" quite often, and I love it. Not to mention no other person I've worked with on my mission thus far has been more dedicated and made more progress than Tim. He is around 50 and just recently got his patriarchal blessing, is taking family names to the temple, will be getting the Melchizedek Priesthood within two weeks, and is on track to go through the temple early next year. He is remarkable. I don't know if he thinks of himself as very grand, just a single guy living alone who watches movies, but I know in the eyes of the Lord he is a treasured son and a powerful servant. We would all do better to try and be a bit more like Tim.
Okay so next week is transfers. I don't know where I am going but I really want to stay here still. I feel like I have one or two more transfers left in me for the Kitchener-Waterloo area. If not, I will be happy to work anywhere else in this happy corner of the Great White North. If you want to mail me anything this week, send it to the mission office, and not my apartment, there is a possibility I might not get it!
Next I have a wonderful story of going about doing good. So we were walking down the street in the cold (It has been in the negatives most of the week up here) and we saw a woman and her mother trying to unload their car. I suggested we help them and they happily accepted. We loaded an ikea bed-set to their door and said God bless you and went on our merry way. Well a few moments later a van speeds up beside us at the curb and rolls down the window. This woman says she wants to buy us Tim Horton's (the Starbucks of Canada, for those of you who aren't familiar. They are EVERYWHERE.) We said yes and ended up teaching her there at the cafe, and she accepted lessons for this week, AND we'll be teaching her 8 year old son. She was so truly grateful and sincere about her thankfullness for us helping her out, and not only that, truly sincere about her desire to raise her children the way God would want her to. At the end of the day, when we go about doing good, we touch the Light of Christ within others and the power of God becomes tangible in not only our lives, but the lives of others.
Next, we ate a lovely older couple's home this week. Now permit me here to be a bit emphatic. They had AN. ACTUAL. OIL. PAINTING. OF. HENRY. WADSWORTH. LONGFELLOW.
ANACTUALOILPAINTINGOFHENRYWADS WORTHLONGRFELLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was gorgeous. I was so happy to see it. They were very proud to have it. I'm not even sure how they acquired it exactly but I studied it so very closely and it looks real enough to me. We had a wonderful talk with them about that and many other things. But mostly that. Because c'mon. It's amazing.
Also unfortunately Bro Birtle (the cat guy) had a sad experience this week. His black cat Stormy (who also is appropriately a Wicken from a religious standpoint) passed away. My heart goes out to Bro Birtle for his loss. I am equally sad we won't get to experience Halloween with the black Wicken cat.
Okay I hope that was better than last week. Thank you all for your love and support. I wish you all the best, and may God bless you on this Halloween evening full of spooks, ghouls, goblins, ghosts, haunts, specters, and many more frightful things that go bump in the night.
Love
